Three new Opera Talks are upcoming, starting March 11! The talks, a collaboration of Opera Wilmington and UNCW’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), feature UNCW faculty member Helena Spencer Kopchick as your entertaining guide to each opera. You’ll learn the basics about each opera, along with any accompanying scoop that your Google search on an opera or composer won’t necessarily reveal.
Registration is available for the three-talk series, and you won’t want to miss a one! These events take place at UNCW’s OLLI Building, 620 S. College Road in Wilmington.
Each talk, presented on a Wednesday, precedes a Live in HD production from the Metropolitan Opera the following Saturday at the Regal Cinemas at Mayfaire and the Cinemark at Myrtle Beach’s Coastal Grand Mall. The selected operas and Opera Talk dates are:
March 11: Tristan and Isolde (Wagner)
April 29: Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovsky)
May 27: El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego (Frida and Diego’s Last Dream) (Frank)

Dr. Spencer is an associate professor of musicology and bassoon at UNCW, specializing in opera. She is also the principal bassoonist in the Opera Wilmington Orchestra.
