Opera Review: Opera Wilmington nails it

Jul 24, 2025 | Announcements

A July 19 review of Opera Wilmington’s Don Giovanni praised all aspects of the production, from the quality (and collegiality) of cast and orchestra to the details of costumes, set and lighting.

“Opera Wilmington nails the peculiar charm of Don Giovanni,” writes C.C Lilford, reviewer for Classical Voice of North Carolina. Lilford gives a thorough commentary on every aspect of the production, including the creative team’s decision to place the orchestra onstage.

In conclusion, Lilford writes, “The best opera productions exercise a level of expressivity that not all art is even capable of. In the hands of a playful composer like Mozart, this makes for an especially demanding work. Opera Wilmington made it look easy in a way that you won’t fully understand unless you have the pleasure of seeing it for yourself.”
